DON’TS OF A GOOD COPY

Last week I read two copies and noticed some points that shouldn’t be in a good copy. Read this article if you want to level up your copywriting game.

1. Never Ending Storytelling

Yeah, most of us know that people buy stories. But PLEASE don’t write a soap serial script in your copy. Today, I was exhausted while finding out the purpose of a copy. The writer didn’t even talk about the product clearly.

2. Don’t Beat About The Bush

Talking about the same thing over and over again in different ways won’t compel the readers into buying from you. Things can go otherwise if you keep up with this strategy.

3. Please Talk Less About Yourself

Copy is not a biography. Yeah, you can write it somewhere else but try to understand that copy is not the right medium for it. It’s totally fine to quote your example but try not to write every moment of your life. Write about the READERS. They are your potential clients. Tell them how your product will benefit THEM.

4. Don’t Spam

People hate it. I’m being serious. When we try to be extremely persuasive, most of us cross the line and start sounding spammy and pushy. It sounds manipulative when you try hard to sell something. Try sounding more natural. Don’t make the readers feel as if you’re selling them your product on a gunpoint.

5. Readers Are Not Dumb

Seriously, they’re not. We can’t “trap” people by exaggerating about our services. High claims do not convert if they’re not supported by evidence. Again, I’m not talking about fake reviews as people are smart enough to differentiate between real and fake. If you’re claiming something then at least be more realistic.

6. Don’t Write Blocks Of Text

Whether you consider it pleading or whatever but please don’t write blocks of text especially in a copy. People don’t bother to read long and boring paragraphs. Instead of writing never-ending paragraphs, try to be more concise and clear.

7. Don’t Grumble About Your Problems

Don’t get me wrong. We do need to talk about problems faced by people in order to provide solutions. But writing a whole novel about your problems in a copy is not cool. People require solutions so, don’t make them wait for hours before you come to your point.

These were some points that I noticed in some copies. I thought I should share them with you. What do you say about them? Let me know if I should write about Dos of a good copy?

Final Note: It’s okay to be a little sassy sometimes.
